The best vacuum I've ever had for cat hair. Well worth the price.

I have 2 cats and 3 dogs. I also have an older model Kirby and it works great. They are big and bulky but they do wonders. I got mine at a vacuum shop reconditioned for about 300 w/ all the attatchments and shampooer. Its a kirby g5.

I have a long haired cat (she's part maine coon) and it seems to be a never ending battle of cat hair. Especially on my couch. I would suggest dyson pet vacuum cleaner, it's a little expensive, but well worth it. I also have a handheld vaccuum and a vaccuum broom. Good Luck!

It depends on your flooring. If you have carpets, I highly recommend the Windsor Sensor XP 12: http://www.uclean.com/catalog/productInf…
Definately do research on trying to find the best price. You can find them at local janitorial supply companies. I use this vaccuum for my janitorial business and in my home before I put in laminate floors. It shifts on its own, is very quiet compared to others and has an awesome pull out hose with attachments for cleaning drapes and furniture. I love it!
For my house, now that I have laminate flooring, I just use a shopvac with a brush free floor nozzle attachment which makes cleaning the floors very very easy.
Also a note, I've had my vaccuum for 3 years and before it was mine, my mother had it for years. Still runs GREAT and has excellent suction as long as you replace the bag when needed (the vacuum also tells you when to do that).
Also forgot to mention that I have 3 cats (had 5 at one time when I had carpets) and the vacuum does a great job with that.

I have 3 shorthair cats, and a Dyson vacuum (the purple model). It works pretty good. Sometimes on the couch I will have to go over a spot 2 times, but it gets probably 80% of the hair on the first pass, I only vacuum the couch about 3 times per year so there's usually a lot of hair by the time I get around to it.
However, holding the "wand" feels a little awkward. Hard to explain, but try it out in the store. It's just really long.

the vacuum that has worked WONDERS for me is the Dyson Animal Hair vacuum. It is a bit exspensive, but it truly does get up all the hairs.
Also, a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter does great for people with cat allergies.
